The MadwivesBec Heyward, Ila NortheJulie Kinloch, Kimai Cure and Karen Maplesden work closely together at the Midwifery Centre and share a common philosophy.

New Zealand has a unique system for maternity care. You will have a Lead Maternity Carer throughout your pregnancy. Most women will have a midwife as their Lead Maternity Carer. As midwives we can provide all maternity care that you will require for a well healthy pregnancy.

At the Midwifery Centre you can call in anytime we are open for a free pregnancy test, and preconceptional advice.

We provide antenatal care.

This includes regular appointments throughout your pregnancy to check on the well being of you and your baby. We will organise blood tests and scans for you throughout the pregnancy. If you or your baby require extra care we can refer you to see specialist doctors at Hawkes Bay Hospital.

We provide labour and birth care.

During your labour and birth, you will be attended by your midwife, or one of her backup midwives. This may include home visits in early labour, support during active labour, and your midwife will be with you for a couple of hours following your baby’s birth.

We provide postnatal care.

After your baby is born your midwife will visit you at home for 4-6 weeks. Advice on how to care for your baby, breastfeeding, and how to care for yourself will be offered. Your baby will be checked regularly and referred to a Well Child provider of your choice, and to your GP for follow up care after 6 weeks.
